Former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday said it is insulting and ridiculous to question the academic credentials of APC presidential candidate, retired Gen. Muhammad Buhari.

Speaking at the launch of his book, My Watch, in London, Obasanjo said when he joined the army, it was mandatory that one must have WASC or GCE before enlisting in the armed forces.

He said the requirements were the same when Gen. Buhari joined the army in 1961, adding that even if Buhari did not have the required qualifications then, he had gone through the staff college which is equivalent to a first degree and the U.S. War College which is equivalent to a master’s degree.

“If anybody thinks that I’m illiterate or uneducated after attending many military institutions in the UK, India and the US, they should read my books”, he said, and urged those engaged in Buhari’s qualification debacle to “focus on real issues and stop degenerating into trivialities”.

Obasanjo, who answered questions from the audience on various socio-political issues affecting Nigeria, said he would assess the candidates in the election and “vote for one with the best record”.

The former president remarked that God would not have forgiven him if he had allowed vice-president Atiku Abubakar to succeed him, noting that with his experience, he knew what the job of running Nigeria entailed and who could do it well.

On whether he was overheating the Nigerian polity with his comments, Obasanjo said: “I am not heating anything. When things are going bad and you can’t say anything, you are an accomplice. If anybody can prove that what I am saying is wrong, I will apologise”.

On the Chibok girls, Obasanjo berated the federal government for taking long to acknowledge the incident, but not doing enough to bring back the girls, stressing that though the girls may never come together again, “we must not forget them”.

He said in spite of the problems bedeviling Nigeria, the country’s future is “rosy” and bright, emphasizing that the country faced similar problems in the past, including the civil war but came out stronger.

“God will see Nigeria through. Nigeria will emerge successfully and move up and forward”, he said.

The book launch which was attended by mainly Nigerians in Diaspora, was anchored by Richard Dowden of the Royal African Society, London, and Zeinab Badawi, a renowned television broadcaster.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on Wednesday said it had engaged the services of in-house engineers to rehabilitate the country’s three ailing refineries at a cost of $550m (N99bn), down from the $1.6bn (N288bn) presented to it by foreign contractors.

ref

The refineries are the Port Harcourt Refining Company, Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited and the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited.

The Group Executive Director, Refining and Petrochemicals, NNPC, Mr. Ian Udoh, stated that the corporation resolved to use indigenous engineers because it could not pay the bills of foreign contractors who were nominated by the original builders of the refineries.

Udoh spoke during a press briefing organised by the corporation to refute claims that it was indicted by the report of the forensic audit carried out on its operations by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

He said, “For the three refineries, the estimates going with the nominees of the original builders of the refineries would have come up to $1.6bn. But we can’t afford that because we are not going to get any funding from the government for that.

“We examined the work scope and picked up the essential things that we must do to get these refineries to operate optimally at around 90 per cent of capacity. That was done and we did the pricing template; not the international rates, we used the local rates. And everything for the three refineries combined came to around $550m, which is significant, maybe up to 70 per cent reduction.

“Even the $550m is quite much. So, we amortised it over 18 months so that we will be able to swallow it in bits more easily. The 18 months started since last October and this means that early next year, the refineries should be in shape.”

He stated that the original builders of the refineries were not willing to come to Nigeria but nominated their partners to handle the turnaround maintenance of the facilities.

The partners, according to Udoh, are not willing to give post rehabilitation performance guarantee, adding that their prices were exceedingly high.

He said, “So, a new pact had to be taken, which is more affordable for the NNPC, that is, to rehabilitate all the refineries simultaneously, resorting more to what is locally available. And these include the in-house engineers and such contractors that have been working with us all these years who are familiar with the plant.

“Part of that plan is that if there is any challenging big equipment, we resort to the original manufacturers to send a representative to join our engineers on the ground to carry out whatever is needed to be done.”

Earlier in his address, the Group Managing Director, NNPC, Dr. Joseph Dawha, had explained that the $1.48bn, which PwC directed it to remit to the Federation Account, was the balance of the book value of the divested assets that were transferred to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, excluding taxes and royalties.

“This value is still being reconciled with the Department of Petroleum Resources,” he added.

He stated that what the DPR sent to the corporation as the estimated value of the assets was $1.847bn, out of which the NNPC paid over $300m as a token to indicate its commitment to acquiring the assets pending resolution and reconciliation by both organisations.

On why the NNPC had not been able to tackle pipeline vandalism despite installing electronic monitoring gadgets on them, the corporation’s Group Executive Director, Engineering and Technical, Mr. Adebayo Ibirogba, stated that the technology might detect immediately where a pipeline had been blown up, but the ability to respond speedily was an issue.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State has suspended its Chairman, Col. Sam Inokoba (retd.), over alleged financial impropriety.

Inokoba was suspended by the members of the State Working Committee on Wednesday for alleged misconduct and diversion of N40m gift provided for the party by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison-Madueke.

It was learnt that the decision to suspend Inokoba was taken on Tuesday after deliberation by members of the State Executive Council.

Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, Mr. Osom Makebre, who confirmed the suspension, declined to give further details.

He however explained that the decision of the SEC had been forwarded to the national leadership of the party for ratification.

Makbere said in accordance with the party’s constitution, it was expected that the Deputy Chairman of the party, King Serena Dokubo-Spiff, would take over the running of the party within the next 30 days.

A source at the meeting said the suspended chairman had been invited to appear before the enlarged SEC but that he refused and reportedly travelled to Abuja.

According to the source, SEC members deliberated on a five-count charge of misconduct levelled against Inokoba.

Inokoba was also accused of refusing to join in the ongoing campaigns for candidates of the Bayelsa Central Senatorial district because the candidates were not his choice.

The party source, who craved anonymity, said, “He has since neglected to carry out his official duties as party chairman. He sponsored aspirants during the party primaries instead of engaging in neutrality as the chairman of the party.

“He also publicly, in the presence of party members, ordered his security aides and thugs to beat a party member due to dispute over party primaries materials.

“He also engaged in promoting factions within the state PDP and engaged in financial dishonesty with funds provided by members of the PDP from the state and national level.”

But reacting to the suspension, media aide to the suspended chairman, Mr. Nelson Agadi, described the suspension as illegal and “a sponsored action.”

“The suspension is a lie that cannot hold and it is a violation of the Section 10 sub section 7 of the party constitution,” Agadi said

OTUNBA Gani Adams is the National Coordinator of the Odua People’s Congress, OPC. In this interview, Adams explains why leaders of South West zone are divided over the choice of presidential candidates to support in the forthcoming elections.

He also bares his mind on the postponement of the general elections among other issues. Excerpts:

How will you react to the INEC’s shift of the elections dates by six weeks?

Well, the shift in dates is as a result of necessities for cogent reasons such as the issues of security and adequate logistics for the exercise. Let me explain these by reminding you of the fact that the shared Permanent Voters’ Card (PVCs) was just 66 per cent while the remaining 34 per cent were still to be given out and that is about 24 million eligible Nigerians. I was so sad with the way the opposition handled the development. I just can’t imagine how comfortable they are that about 24 million Nigerians were to be disenfranchised; as a matter of fact, I won’t even be comfortable with 10,000 Nigerians not to talk of 24 million.

Secondly, the security chiefs declared they couldn’t guarantee security of INEC’s ad-hoc staff. How then will any sane person push for the exercise without the support of security chiefs? For these two cogent reasons, I don’t see us going for free, fair and credible elections. We still have more than three months for the handover of government; there is no need for them to be too anxious more than the umpire.

Moreover, we have 27 political parties and 17 of them have declared that the election should be postponed and eight insisted that it be held, in as much as 17 has indicated interest in the shifting, it simply means majority of Nigerians have spoken.

Security challenges

The opposition has always been hiding behind security issue to condemn Jonathan, now the president wanted to tackle security challenges before the election, the opposition is again shouting foul. What they are criticizing Jonathan for is what the gentleman wanted to face in six weeks. Come to think of it, with or without the necessary amend, he has insisted on May 29 as handover date.

But some people alleged that President Jonathan is working towards interim government, what is your view of this?

Jonathan cannot propose an interim government and at the end of the day be the head of such arrangement, such move won’t be in the interest of Jonathan.

But most Yoruba are not supporting Jonathan’s re-election bid, how do you see this development?

Jonathan or Buhari who will you pick ?

We don’t need to deceive ourselves. The main group in Yorubaland, Afenifere has spoken; Afenifere the political arrowhead of Yoruba people has declared support for Jonathan. Even Dr. Frederick Fasehun, the owner of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) has endorsed Jonathan, even before Afenifere. I don’t have problem with Buhari, but I have serious problem with the people that surround him. So in conclusion, 85 per cent of Lagosians want Jonathan.

What is your assessment of the campaign?

They should stop blackmailing or discrediting each other. They should come out with facts to convince people, stop calling people who have sacrificed for the nation different names. In my own opinion there is no difference between the two major political parties, the APC and the PDP

They are calling for personality change but they are not calling for institutional change. When you said the present structure should not change and you are saying the president should change. If you say Buhari should be the president what of the institutions that have not changed. We went to the national conference to restructure Nigeria, to change the institutions. And the institutions are always more powerful than any individual.

I am not saying Jonathan is a saint because if those people around him are corrupt and he cannot deal with them, then it means he also has some skeletons in his cupboard. But Jonathan is quite different from the caliber of people we have in APC. You know what is happening in Ogun State when somebody was building bridges where there is no water. When you are having a billion naira bridges and there is no free education. People of Oyo State are crying because the government of the state shut its door against the masses.

But despite Afenifere’s endorsement of Jonathan, prominent Yoruba leaders are supporting Buhari. What do you have to say to this?

I think you are having the mindset that some Yoruba leaders are supporting Jonathan. How many of them were in the struggle except for General Alani Akinrinade and Hon. Wale Oshun? Oshun is very close to APC. And there is no way you can separate Akinrinade and Tinubu. Yes they are always together. Akinrinade may not be partisan but you can separate him from Tinubu, they have close relationship.

I got to know that when we were in the national conference. When you are however talking about the core people who always fight for the course of the Yoruba and those whose voice you hear about regionalism and introduction of parliamentary system, you talk of myself as the leader of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC leader at the conference and the Afeniferes who believe that no matter the situation, the course of Yoruba must be championed at the conference.

Enough education

In Yorubaland I remember when I became leader of OPC, people say I did not have enough education to be a leader. Therefore, I went to school, I trained myself and I went to school. I went to even write WAEC, I went to write NECO, I wrote WAEC again. I went to Ghana to get a diploma, I got a diploma in Lagos State University onward to receiving a degree, but now Buhari is being alleged of not having a School Certificate.

The opposition said the election was postponed because Jonathan was afraid to lose the election.

That is propaganda, many things you hear from them, about 50 per cent of them is propaganda. Sultan of Sokoto said he has not got his PVC, I just got my PVC on Friday and in my house almost all the 35 people that registered, it is only me and two others that got theirs, 32 other are yet to receive theirs, and you now say the election should hold, and you are blaming Jonathan.

If there is crisis after the election, they will now say Jonathan has caused crisis. The Service Chiefs said they were not ready for the election.

Earlier in the day, news broke that Starboy, Wizkid is bereaved. The then unconfirmed reports were related to the death of the ‘Ojuelegba’ singer’s grand-mum.

e made efforts to confirm the authenticity of the reports by putting a call through to his manager, Seun Johnson who responded: ‘I’m not sure yet, I’ve not heard about it. It’s a family affair so I’ll have to confirm and get back to you.’

Although his manager never got back, Wizkid, however, took to Twitter a few minutes ago to confirm the story by saying: ‘R.I.P Grand ma. Love u to the moon and back. I’m sad! Real sad! Good woman. Looked out for all of us. Wish we had more time together. Love!’

Four women are now cooling their heels at Ogidi Police station in Anambra State over a stolen two months-old baby girl.

The baby said to have been stolen from her mother at Nnewi was said to have been sold for N625, 000 by an Enugu based woman (names withheld).

The four women now in police custody included three sellers.

During an interview with Daily Independent, the buyer said that she resolved to procure the baby girl because she needed a female child that would look after her when she would be old.

“I have a male child but I want a female child that will look after me when I become old. The boy will not nurse me more than the girl”, she said.

When asked if the husband was aware of her plan to buy the baby, she spoke in the affirmative, saying “he was aware and asked me to carry on”.

Confirming the arrest of the buyer and sellers, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), in charge of the Ogidi Police Station, Mr. Hassan Musa, said that the baby has also been recovered and that she is in police custody while effort is on to get the mother.

Musa said he was satisfied with the confessional statement of those arrested, adding that two of the women that sold the baby are based in Abatete and Onitsha.

He said “We had to move to Enugu to get the baby on arresting the buyer days after and now we are moving to Nnewi to know how the mother of the baby will feature”.

He reiterated the resolve of the Division to stop all illegal sale of babies in the area.

Musa disclosed that it was on a tip off that the police arrested the sellers while they were waiting for the buyer to come from Enugu, Enugu State.

THE suspect arrested with a Ghana-made triple barrel gun in Iseyin town, Oyo State, Ajibola Ibrahim (32) a.k.a. Scorpion, has denied the allegation of motorcycle stealing brought against him, saying that he turned a new leaf after his last arrest and was working as a political thug when he was arrested.

2115353_ibrahimajibola

Crime Reports in January 25, 2015 publication of Sunday Tribune carried Ajibola’s story, in which he was accused of stealing motorcycles and shooting one of the owners when accosted. The triple barrel gun was said to have been recovered from him.

Ajibola, an indigene of Iseyin town, admitted that the gun was found on him but said that it was meant for his current job as a political thug, not robbery.

He added that his accusers were only trying to implicate him because of his criminal past.

Ibrahim had once been arrested by SARS operatives in Ibadan late 2011 with two others – Saheed Akere and Toyin Ikudoro – when the law enforcement agents stormed their hideout in Igbojaye village in Oke Ogun area of the state to arrest them. The name he gave to the police then was Ibrahim Rafiu.

The leader of the gang then, one Lanre Ekwueme was shot when he tried to escape arrest by shooting his way out. They were said to be an interstate robbery gang who stole motorcycles from owners at gunpoint. Those who were their friends and relations were not spared as they committed the criminal act brazenly.

In an interview with Crime Reports, Ibrahim, who said he left prison about six months ago, disclosed that he was an ardent marijuana smoker and started taking the banned drug since 2004.

“It is true I was an armed robber but after I was arrested and remanded in prison in 2011, I made up my mind to stop.

It was my friend who took me to Igbojaye village where we were suspected by the villagers. I rode one of the two motorcycles we took there. We were arrested with two motorcycles. I knew our gang leader then, Lanre Ekwueme, in Iseyin, though he was from Akure, Ondo State. We also had two guns.

“SARS operatives stormed our hideout in the night and arrested two of us while our leader, Lanre, was gunned down when he tried to escape. I was remanded in prison custody and only came out about six months ago. The case was struck out.

“Since I came out of prison, I have been following a politician as a thug. I have been working for one of the gubernatorial candidates (names withheld) in Oyo State. One of his boys, popularly called Alubarika Risler, is the one in change of coordination of the activities of the thugs working for the candidate.

Anytime there was going to be campaign in any part of the state, Alubarika would call us and we would come to Ibadan to join the campaign train.

“On the recent case, I did not steal any motorcycles. I was only roped in because the Iseyin people knew my history and believed that I was still a dangerous person.

“On Saturday, January 10, 2015, I travelled from Lagos to Iseyin to attend a carnival taking place in our town. The gubernatorial candidate I was working for had a campaign rally in Ibadan on Monday, January 12, so my intention was to go to Ibadan on Sunday after the Iseyin rally, to prepare for the rally.

“Before I came to Ibadan, Alubarika came to me in Lagos. He had five guns with him, out of which he gave me one with three live cartridges. They were all new and he told me he just bought them. He said I should always have the gun with me anytime we would be going for campaign.

“After disembarking from the vehicle that brought me from Lagos, I mounted a bike to get to the centre of Iseyin town, only to be stopped at a point by some people who said they suspected me. They searched me and found the gun I had on me. They said robbers came to the town to take their bikes and they were waiting to see if they would try to take the bikes out of the town through the route I came in. They even disclosed that one of them was shot by the armed robbers in the early hours of same day.

“When I looked at the people around, I saw some of those who knew I had a criminal case in the past and I believed that they were the ones who pointed at me as a suspect. They started beating me and took the gun, my phone, cash (about N74,000) and my gold chain. They took me to Iseyin police station from where I was transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Dugbe, Ibadan. I was not caught with any bike and I did not shoot anyone.”

Ibrahim said he was ignorant of the fact that it was criminal to possess a gun unlawfully. “My parents warned me against going contrary to the law but I am a stubborn person. This is the result of stubbornness. My past deeds are still haunting me.”

He revealed that he was called Scorpion “because of my prowess in subduing stubborn cows. I also trained in boxing, so I have always been known as a tough guy.”

When contacted, the police image maker in Oyo State, Adekunle Ajisebutu confirmed the story, saying that the command was still investigating the case.

The Nigerian military has reportedly embarked on an operation in Sambisa Forest to flush out Boko Haram members who have made the location their hideout.

An unnamed source told Punch that the military decided to commence the operation as a measure to help make the Northeast safe for the upcoming elections.

The Nigerian Air Force reportedly started raiding the forest on Monday, while simultaneous surveillance activities and raids by the military were ongoing.

“The military has started the operation in the Sambisa Forest; the operation started on Monday.

For now there is no specific cases of arrest, we don’t have that information now. The Air Force has been operating in the area since Monday. It is after that that the ground troops who are on red alert would move in.

Also, a source close to a security office strategic to the operations of the Federal Government said on Wednesday that a lot of activities were going on simultaneously in the Sambisa area and other parts of the North East,” the source said.

The publication further reports that “…it was gathered that the military authorities are combing the Sambisa Forest because of intelligence reports that some of the insurgents who were dislodged from some of the communities were withdrawing into the forest.”

In an interview with Christiane Amanpour on CNN this evening, APC presidential candidate Gen. Muhammadu Buhari reacted to former president Obasanjo publicly endorsing him.

When asked by Amanpour how he felt about it, Buhari said;

I am happy about it. It means more supporters and more confidence for those still sitting on the fence. He’s well respected.

No serious issue can happen (in Nigeria) without people seeking his opinion and listening to it”

Read what Obasanjo said about Buhari yesterday Below:-

At the launch of his controversial book, The Watch, in Kenya yesterday, former President Olusegun Obasanjo endorsed Buhari, saying;

The circumstances [Buhari] will be working under if he wins the election are different from the one he worked under before, where he was both the executive and the legislature, he knows that.

He’s smart enough. He’s educated enough. He’s experienced enough. Why shouldn’t I support him?”

It would be recalled that while speaking on election postponement, Obasanjo in an interview with Financial Times in Nairobi on Monday said: “I’ll only go by the constitution.

By our constitution, there must be a new government on the 29th of May and the constitution lays out how that new government should emerge”.

Obasanjo also endorsed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari.

Reacting Tuesday night, Okupe wrote on his Facebook page: “Someone was reported to have said “A new government will be installed on the 29th of may 2015″

Lamentations 3 vs 37 says “Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass when the Lord commandeth it not?

Isaiah 7 vs 7 says “Thus sayeth the Lord God, it shall not stand neither shall it come to pass.”

Namadi_Sambo

Vice President Namadi Sambo at the weekend in Yenagoa knocked the leadership of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) for parading falsehood as the plank upon which to accelerate Nigeria’s development.

He mocked the leadership of APC, describing them as a group of persons who hold questionable “Chicago and Toronto certificates”.

He stressed that the country’s future must not be in the hands of such political characters.

Sambo was speaking at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign in President Goodluck Jonathan’s home state, Bayelsa, which was held at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

He admonished the APC to realise that “transforming Nigeria is not by accident”, adding that opposition presidential candidates must be very educated to understand the dynamics of change, growth and development.

The vice president said the APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, at 73, does not have the requisite capacity, strength and verve to pilot the affairs of a sophisticated nation like Nigeria.

According to him, the transformation of the country by the PDP-controlled Federal Government was under the safe hands of a well-read President who is a Ph.D holder supported by a vice president, who is also a professional architect.

Sambo said Jonathan had not disappointed Nigerians as he had transformed the country, shoring up its status to the largest economy in Africa.

“The leadership of APC is full of Chicago and Toronto certificate holders. Nigerians don’t want people who will parade Chicago and Toronto certificates.

“Mr. President has not failed Nigerians. He has transformed Nigeria, making it the largest economy in Africa. Transforming Nigeria is not by accident. He is educated and we need education, not prisons.

“Jonathan has built 14 universities in four years. Do you want schools or prisons?” he asked the crowd at the Samson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa.

Sambo, who stated that they were not in Bayelsa to campaign but to thank the people of the state, noted that the state did not make a mistake to produce Jonathan.

He listed the completion of the ongoing cargo airport, East-West Road and the building of a new railway from Lagos through Yenagoa to Calabar as the additional programmes the Federal Government would do for the state.

Sambo, who called on the people to vote for PDP as they had always done, urged them to collect their PVCs to enable them vote their choice.

fashola-583254

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State yesterday accused President Goodluck Jonathan of consistently lying, saying the lies were negatively affecting the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

Fashola also alleged that the Jonathan administration had looted Nigeria more than any other government before it, declaring; “It is time for them to go and they must go”.

The Lagos governor made this known at the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rallies in Ejigbo and Ladipo auto spare parts market in Mushin.

According to Fashola, President Jonathan lied to Nigerians about issues that affect lives, including electricity, security and the economy, adding that the president had also taken steps to muzzle truth.

He recalled that Jonathan in 2011 promised Lagosians that he would make electricity available to them, “but without fulfilling the promise, the president later lied in a programme on Cable News Network (CNN) that the people of Lagos were enjoying constant electricity”.

Fashola also recalled that shortly after the news of the kidnap of the Chibok school girls by Boko Haram broke out, the military claimed that they had rescued the girls but when Nigerians demanded to see the girls, the military said the girls were not kidnapped.

“The most distressing aspect of the issue was when President Jonathan was advised to visit the parents of the girls and console them soon after the kidnap, he refused and instead decided to invite the aggrieved parents to Abuja, an action that is un-African”, he said.

The governor added: “This same government of Jonathan lied to us that they had signed a peace accord with the Boko Haram and since then, they claimed more than five times that they had killed Shekau, the Boko Haram leader, yet Shekau is still alive”.

On the Economy, Fashola recalled the issue of the alleged missing $20 billion, pointing out that when the former CBN Governor now Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, blew the whistle, he was sacked by the president.

“They sacked the one who told the truth and retained the people that are telling them lies”, he noted.

Addressing the crowd earlier, the APC Governorship Candidate for Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, urged the people to be steadfast and more determined in their campaigns and rallies for Change at the centre, adding that, “it is only the elections that have been shifted but the people’s destiny cannot be shifted”.

Abaga

He indirectly rapped about this matter in one of the songs off his new album “Human being”, and he’s making reference to the matter again.

Arguably the best rapper in Nigeria, MI Abaga has revealed why artistes didn’t donate for OJB’s kidney complications.

MI said the fear of being ridiculed made many artistes not to give cash to the producer.

In his words: –

“First of all, I have the utmost respect for Nomoreloss as a human being.

He was definitely one of the people that had a platform that put us on. He is always showing me love, always giving me good advice.

“I haven’t seen him since, and I dread seeing him because, I can imagine that for that one comment, he’ll be disappointed. ‘Yo M.I, why didn’t you reach out to me.

“But this what happened; OJB was sick and people were trying to raise money.

I all of a sudden went 0-100 broke, like instantly. All of a sudden there was letters going out, ‘like this person didn’t contribute, why would you ask a publicist (to write a letter), and it became a big thing.

What caught me was the fact that Nomoreloss who was a fellow artiste, and he’s writing letters saying, ‘Why won’t artiste come out, why won’t D’banj speak out and say he didn’t donate this money?”

“Everybody was confused, every artiste was confused, so one or two things started happening. A certain artiste told me that he went and contributed the little money that he had, and by the time he got home, it was put in the broadcast, ‘this is how much you gave’.”

And it was embarrassing because somebody else is giving N5 million, and you have your little N100,000.

“Already, everybody was in that N100,000 category, of which there was maybe 20, 30 people. Automatically it’s like ‘Yo, I’m gonna keep my N100,000, I’m not trying to be embarrassed. On the second hand, you have artistes, like myself, who were just confused, if we were to go, what would have happened, what would we see, because it had become a media thing.

OJB later got the help he needed when the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, funded the surgery. M.I Abaga recognizes that, but believes that more discretion and understanding should have been applied by Nomoreloss.

“At the end of the day, Nomoreloss can hold his head high because OJB did get help. But the comment in the song came from the fact that I remember reading back to back articles and people were just insulting 2face (Idibia); this guy gave you all the music and you couldn’t even even help him. People didn’t know at the time, 2face’s Dad who had later gone on to pass away from kidney complications was in India undergoing the same thing.

“I was privy to one moment when they needed money right there and then, and 2face was caught between Lagos and Abuja, he was trying to get money for people to send. It was rough for some people.

People had issues every day, you know Iyanya lost most of his family in one year, but we never see that side. What we see is what you should be able to do based on our perception of who you are.

“At least not from a fellow artiste. A fellow artiste should understand, and thankfully it didn’t become controversial. That’s the truth of what I wanted to say in the moment.”

V-DAY is not just a day to glorify romance, it is also a day to celebrate love in general, love for yourself, your friends, your community and for the world. So if you don’t have a date this Valentine’s Day, don’t stay at home and pout. Here are some other things you can do on February 14th to celebrate the day of love.

1. Cook Yourself a Nice Meal. After spending hours at a voting center, putting together a nice meal for yourself is the next thing to do. It’s practically impossible not to feel good afterward.

2. Head To a Club. There are nice clubs out there that you can go to. Most of them are best decorated on February and their service is always at its best. Go there and enjoy your life.

3. Get yourself together. It may sound strange, but when was the last time you woke up feeling totally put together? Instead of moping about being single, use the free time you have on Valentine’s Day evening to get yourself organized. Clean up your calendar, catch up on laundry, plan ahead for major things, and get a head start on those works you’ve been avoiding. Use the day to finish (or start) something you’ve been meaning to tackle. It may sound lame at first, but you might be surprised at how good you feel after you’re done.

4. Send Love Someone Else’s Way. Studies show that kindness spreads like epidemic, so start the epidemic. Do something nice for another person. Open a door for someone who needs it, visit an elderly person, spend time with him/her, help them arrange the house. buy a rose and give it to someone random on the street, whatever you do, will make you feel full of love inside.

5. Throw a Party. If you have the money then invite your friends over to celebrate being fabulous.

6. Love Your Singleness. Think about all the marvelous benefits of being single, from not fighting over minor issues to being able to keep your living space as clean or as messy as you’d like. No unnecessary question like where are you, where have you be…

A detachment of the Nigerian military has stormed the Sambisa Forest in Borno State to dislodge members of the violent sect, Boko Haram, who are believed to have used the forest as their stronghold, from where they unleash their terrorist activities.

Sambisa Forest was once believed to be the most feared hideout of the militants, where over 200 schoolgirls, who were abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, 2014, were held captive.

Military sources told our correspondent on Wednesday that “troops have commenced a major operation in Sambisa to clean the forest of terrorists.”

The source did not, however, specify how many of the militants had been captured, but said the “insurgents will be flushed out soon.”

PDP Chairman Adamu Muazu says that INEC was never prepared for the earlier proposed date of February 14th for the general elections.

In a related development, the Chairman of the PDP Presidential campaign organization, Sen. Ahmodu Ali, at a press conference in Abuja yesterday, said the electoral body was never prepared for the elections hence the shift in the dates to save itself from monumental embarrassment…

From all indications, INEC is not fully prepared for the elections. These are issues with the PVCs. Almost 30 million people are yet to get their PVCs despite the fact that the date of distribution was extended.

Will it be possible to have a credible election when millions of Nigerians are disenfranchised because of lack of permanent voter cards? There are also reports that the PVC readers are not fully distributed and tested.

How can INEC handle cases of faulty card readers? Do they have a credible plan B in situations where voters are lined up and the card readers refuse to work? Ballot boxes are reportedly inadequate.

Adequate training of staff for the election had not been concluded and there are other problems facing INEC. Quite clearly, the shift in election dates is meant to save INEC from monumental embarrassment.

I would like to reiterate that the PDP is ready for the election any day. We are querying the INEC for some aberrations in the distribution of PVCs.

How can Borno State which is under siege register more PVC collections than Lagos State? The INEC might have allowed the distribution of its cards to be tampered with.

We hope that INEC will now use the extra time it has given itself to perfect its methodology; for example the card readers need to be tried and tested during the training of its operators”. he said.
