Nigeria-born Qatar athlete, Femi Ogunode has broken the Asian record finishing 9.93 seconds in the Men’s 100m in South Korea, in the process making it known that he is ready to challenge the big boys including Jamaican king of the tracks, Usain Bolt.
Ogunode beat China’s Su Bingtan and Japan’s Kei Takase who both finished in second and third positions respectively at the Asian games held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Incheon, South Korea.

‘Congratulations to the Nollywood recipients of the Nigerian National Awards which took place today in Abuja. Kenneth Nnebue, Joke Silva and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde were each given National Honours by President Jonathan today.
Kenneth Nnebue is generally acknowledged as the founder of the home video industry in Nigeria, which later snowballed into Nollywood. His epoch – making movie ‘Living in Bondage’ which he Executive Produced in 1992 generated the unleashing of creative spirits in Nigeria who followed his footsteps and used the affordable home video technology to exhibit their gifts.
Perhaps without Nnebue’s foray into that sector, the likes of me and thousands of others would never have found the creative leeway we used to show our talents. His award is belated though. But better late than never.
Joke Silva is an actor’s actor. A formidable screen personality and one of the most articulate thespians Nigeria has produced. She is an inspiration to millions and her award is just about a crowning glory she could ever receive from her nation. A priceless gem.
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is known to many. Her acting prowess is arguably in a class by itself and her being nominated as one of the world’s 100 most influential persons by TIME magazine a couple of years back must have paved the way for her present national recognition by the Federal Government. Frankly speaking, I personally think she has more depth in acting than her ‘rival’ Genevieve Nnaji. I have worked with both of them in the past and also studied their acting styles. Omotola has the gift of role immersion. She gives everything into her characters. There is an organic style of interpretation she is gifted with. Very few actors have that. She Is not a Method Actor, mind you but she has delivered roles which many method actors would give her a standing ovation for.
Genevieve, on the other hand, is a fantastic actress and a trend – setting one too. But she lacks the intrinsic ability to evolve artistically beyond her present heights in her career. That is my opinion. There is an underlying stereotype in her interpretation of her roles in many of her movies, a linear aloofness and veiled disdain at the thought of being pushed further down the exploratory lane. Of course she has an uncanny screen presence, which generally veils her artistic shortcomings when it comes to acting and between her and her rivals, she comes tops on the fan base list. However, with an attitude, which seems to say she has nothing more to prove, even the fans would become restless if new artistic exploits are not offered from her to which they can beat their chests.
And for fans of both actresses, this is a professional review of their acting abilities and not an attempt to rekindle old rivalries. Somehow, this post on the National Honours dove tailed into their artistry. All well and good.

Abalore Akande popularly known as 9ice, recently paid a visit to the hiptv studio as he spoke about his intentions to juggle politics with his music.
The Gongo aso singer you’d recall made his intentions know to vie for a position in the Federal House of Representatives Ogbomosho and the question many of his fans keep asking is if the veteran singer would still do music if elected into the House of Representatives.
9ice has however cleared the air about that. This is what he had to say; ‘’Come 2015, people have been asking if 9ice will still perform, sing or do music for my fans and people out there. Well…the answer is yes! You’d recall I just released an album this year 2014, CNN and GRA, which is doing very well in the market. Right now we working on all the videos so as my fans can keep enjoying me while I’m doing something for my constituency.
Also a new album would be dropping January 2015 and Yes! 9ice would still be doing music because music is part of me and I’m inside music”.
Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim opens up about her divorce for the first time ever. She discusses all the factors that led to its break down.
The Ghanaian beauty in an interview withUduak Oduoko of Ladybrille.com explained that marrying early, family influence and lies all led to the failure of her short lived marriage.
The actress who got married at 24 years of age is 28 now and divorced blamed her in-laws for poisoning her ex-husbands mind about her profession as actress, insinuating infidelity rumours.
The actress and entrepreneur had this to say:
“My personal failure will be my marriage because I am divorced now… I got married at age 24. We were happy, young people in love but we really didn’t get a chance to really know ourselves. . . somewhere along the line, family members kept coming in saying “oh no, she’s an actress” I will be there and people will be saying all kinds of stuff and sending him messages saying I am in another man’s car even though I was right there with him”
Juliet who used to be married to Kwadwo Safo has dropped his surname. The estranged couple had a child together.
Nigerian music act Terry G has confirmed he is a ‘mad man’.
The star – who was dressed in a white t-shirt, black leather pants, face cap and wrapped a check over sized shirt around his waist – had one of the best performances at the 2014 Oga Madam Live On Stage Comedy Concert in Lagos over the weekend.
During his performance, the “Free Madness” hit-maker asked the DJ to stop the music. Breathing heavily and counting his hand bells on the floor, he told the crowd why he believes being a ‘mad man’ is a blessing.
He said:
“I am mad… It’s the madness that gives me money. I was as responsible as I used to be, I wouldn’t have the money I have now… So, I thank God for making me MAD.”
As the crowd flew into estacy, the ‘Akpako’ crooner continued by dishing out what we describe as Terry G’s words of wisdom. He said:
“It’s better for me to be a rich mad man than to be a handsome poper!”
Terry G has blamed his ‘eratic’ behavior on the use of weedwhich he claims he was introduced to it by an unidentified Nollywood actress.
It has been reported that a bird flying accidentally hit an object in the middle of the day and immediately transformed into a young girl whose identity has not been ascertained at the time of this report. This bizarre incident occurred at Italapo area of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria.

In an interview with Beat 99.9FM the “Danger” hit maker said his “lost brother” Usher is one of the best when it comes to dance and singing in the world but he can also be beaten on the dance floor by him if the opportunity surfaces.
“We have danced for a very long time to compete even with the best in the world,” Peter said on radio.
“Usher is like a mentor, I watched him dance ever since I was young but I can match him now… after dancing for many years.”

“Under the sun or in the rain, with dedication and selflessness, Nigeria is ours, Nigeria we serve”…that particular aspect of the NYSC anthem always highlights the commitment and purpose of serving our fatherland. One thing I just disliked in the anthem is that they never inserted a stanza that will keep reminding the nigeria youth that after one year of serving our fatherland, they won’t be payment of federal and state government little honorary into our account or a stanza that will keep ringing a bell on every corp member and prospective corp members that after one year of your compulsory service to your fatherland, they is no sure red, blue or black collar job waiting for anybody for grabs.
It always dishearten when you see our youth unemployed after so many years out of school which in most cases increase the level of unemployment rate in Nigeria. I salute the courage of the NYSC authority by initiating a programme call SAED(skill acquisition and entrepreneur development). According to the body, this programme is initiated to provide all corp members the opportunity to learn different skills so as to be self employed during and after service year. One thing that actually disappoint me about this programme is that since NYSC intends to empower the corp members, adequate fund or soft loans most have been created so that corp members can actually use that to set up on their own after service year.
Though am aware that the body has provided a shadow soft loan for selective corp members. This loans according to the NYSC is provided to corp members to finance any of their intending project. According to my findings, its so unfortunate to hear that, this said loan is not designed for all corp members but selected few of which their respective local government believe they most have satisfied their own individual desires( though,I stand to be corrected).
To all corp members who are passing out soonest, will want to encourage you to please think twice before lavishing your last summed up “allawee” cause after this, no more bank alert every 30th or 29th of the month. And for the prospective corp members, please think of the business, savings or investment you want to engage yourselves in before the commencement of your service year. Will encourage you to learn a particular skill you are comfortable in and start running it so as to avoid making you depend on your monthly allawee as your only source of income. Service year is one of the most interesting years, but always remember that after one year they is no automatic work except for the few ‘fortunate’ ones.
Will end this piece by saying I pray that one day corp members will be given a reasonable amount of money when passing out to establish themselves and not rely on white colour jobs and what have you. If 14million could be dashed out to the individual members who attended the just concluded CONFAB, then the government can also make provisions for every corp member to be given a reasonable some of money to invest or establish themselves so as to alleviate poverty, thuggery and the issue of unemployment among Nigerian youth.

It looks like this is a season of divorce for our Nigerian celebrities.
First, it was news about Tiwa Savage and hubby, Teebillz, and now, it is our beautiful actress, Ini Edo.
Kemi Filani has revealed that the wedding of the Nigerian actress who started her acting career in the year 2000 has ended.
The marriage which was contracted in 2008 was said to have ended five weeks ago.
The actress who has featured in more than 50 movies since the beginning of her career is said to be beaten by her husband all the time because she allegedly cheats on him.
Kemi Filani made it known that the groom’s family also added to the whole show because the endowed actress Ini Edo didn’t bear a child.
They have however made sure that the bride’s family returned the earlier bride price that was paid at the inception of the lifetime commitment.
Although the Nollywood actress and her American based hubby Phillips Ehiagwina have split and gone their separate ways, Ini is said to be releasing a press statement soon to that effect, but right now she is in Makurdi shooting a movie.

Nollywood has come to stay and waxing stronger as the day goes by to the extent that other countries want to associate with the industry which has contributed immensely to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
In analyzing how the growth of the make-belief industry has been rapid in terms of growth, many would say thanks to the English aspect of Nollywood, while some will say the Yorubas and others would want to settle for the Kannywood, but whatever aspect it is, Nollywood is Nollywood.
Where we will be pointing its torchlight at, is the Yoruba movies translation to the English language. You will agree with me that a non-Yoruba person who does not even understand the language, will find it saddening to decode what they are saying because the translation sometimes does not conform with what the actors are saying and sometimes it is not all what the actor is saying that is being translated. The few translation they manage to give is always spelt wrongly and could be misleading at times.
You will agree with me that in terms of good story line, we have to give it to the Yoruba movies. They are very good at telling the story the natural or native way. But is faced with the challenge of relaying it with good English translation which i feel could be better if adequate attention is given to it.
