Ex-militant leaders under the aegis of the Niger Delta Youths for Democracy has said that it would resist any plot aimed at frustrating President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2015 presidential election.
Addressing newsmen in Benin, yesterday, leader of the group, General Roland Abanara observed that the politicisation of the activities of the Boko Haram terrorist group is aimed at portraying the president as incapable of leading the country and urged all Nigerians to close ranks regardless of their political or religious affiliations to end the insurgency, according to reports from Leadership.
He also noted that the time is right for an Ijaw person to be given the opportunity to occupy the governorship position in Delta State, just as he drummed up support for the governorship ambition of Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe.
He said it is only the Ijaws that have not produced a governor since the creation of Delta State, adding that it would only be fair to allow them to do so now in the spirit of equity, fair play and justice.
Abanara said, “We are calling on Mr President to declare his intention to seek re-election in 2015 without further delay; this call on Jonathan is based on his performance in office, to ensure that he continues with the transformation agenda which has affected the nooks and crannies of the country.
