Bayo and K1 have a history spanning at least 10 years.

Leading Fuji music star, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, has a new manager. His manager of 17 years, Percy Ademokun, has officially moved on and a replacement in the shape of a younger man, Adebayo Olasoju, is now in place. Olasoju has been one of KWAM 1’s personal assistants for sometime.

But sources told NET that the decision to move on after 17 years by the Fuji king, also known as K1 and his former manager was a mutual decision as both parties involved continue to share a very cordial relationship and in fact, still all hang out together regularly.

Why Percy Ademokun left K1

As it is with every relationship, there comes a time when one party has to move on, that is exactly what played out in the case of K1, also widely regarded as Alhaji and Percy Ademokun who has managed the Fuji king for 17 years until a few months ago, according to a source. Sources in K1’s camp revealed to NET that there were no issues, it was just time for Percy to move on and embrace other challenges.

‘It is still on record that earlier in the year, March 2014 to be precise, Percy Ademokun played a key role in the organisation of the wedding ceremony of K1’s daughters who got married, despite not being the manager anymore at that time,’ the source revealed to NET.

Kwam 1’s first official manager on record is Dayo Olomu, followed by Ayo Sonaiya. Lanre Ijaola took over from Sonaiya while Percy Ademokun managed until earlier this year before ‘Bayo Olasoju stepped in.

Olasoju Adebayo is a vibrant young man in his late 30s and he is an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State. His paths crossed K1’s about 10 years ago in Lagos when K1 came to perform at the burial of the late Oba of Isolo, a suburb of Lagos.

At that time, Bayo became close to the Fuji king because he was a niece to the next Oba who also happened to be a close friend of K1. Bayo is currently running a Diploma course in Business Management at the Stratford Academy of Business in the UK.

Speaking exclusively to NET regarding the time he officially became K1’s manager, he said: ‘Actually, I’ve always been in the background, I was handling the political aspect of his connections and dealings. I’ve also worked in government too, I was a Special Adviser (Legislative) in my municipal council or local government council, I have also been a Personal Assistant to a House of Assembly member. I was a campaign manager for a House of Assembly member as well. So when the vacuum was created, for you to manage someone of K1’s status, two things must come to play, which are trust and confidence.

‘So he just called me and said ‘Bayo, those things you’ve been doing in the background, you’ll have to do it in the open now’ and when I said I’ll take time to think about it, he replied that ‘there’s nothing to think about’ and that he’ll talk to my wife about it’ and that was it.

When asked if there were others interested in managing K1 before he was chosen, Bayo’s reply was short and snap: ‘Well, I don’t know, but what I know is that for you to manage K1, people see it as a juicy career because of who he is, my boss is the only one in the whole world that would never owe you, and till today my relationship with Uncle Percy is very cordial, he’s my boss, my brother and confidant.’

Although he hasn’t managed any other artiste before now, he told NET that his plans are to take the K1 brand to the next level, saying: ‘The first thing is we will put God first in all we do, do our best and leave the rest to God. We can’t compete with what is on ground already, we would only improve and consolidate on it. We just came back from a tour to Miami and Mexico, next we would be taking a couple of hip-hop acts such as May D, Honey Bee and Oritsefemi on tour to Europe. We would be at over 49 cities including Houston, Chicago, London, Germany, Spain, Holland, Italy, New York and we would be doing a lot of music festivals as well,’ he added.
