A police officer on Thursday shot dead his wife and five other people before turning the gun on himself, a police spokesman said.
“Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi shot and killed six people, including his wife, a policewoman in uniform. He later killed himself,” Olumuyiwa Adejobi, from Ogun state police, told AFP.
An investigation has been launched into the incident, which happened after Ogunbiyi, who lived apart from his wife, returned from work early on Thursday.
He went to his wife’s house in the state capital, Abeokuta, and once there shot her with a rifle before killing five other people.
“I knew Sunkanmi personally,” Adejobi told the private Channels television.
“He was not insane. He has been having domestic problems with his wife over a long time,” he added, without disclosing the nature of the problem.
The identity of the five other people was not immediately available.
